Blank Form (#4) Submit Form Frequently Asked Questions CATEGORIES All FAQs Results FAQs Patient FAQs Provider FAQs Partner FAQs Payments FAQs Results FAQs What will my report look like? Your patient report will contain the results from your test. You will find your results categorized into low, moderate, and high reactivity. Low reactivity implies that your body does not have an allergy or sensitivity to a particular antigen. Moderate and high reactivities indicate that your immune system is reacting to a particular antigen. We recommend eliminating allergens for which you are highly reactive. Allergens for which you have moderate reactivity can be removed or limited to see if symptoms improve. Please see the sample reports below. My report showed reactivity to a specific allergen that I have never had problems eating. Do I need to remove it from my diet? Not necessarily. A test result showing reactivity does not always mean that a food must be eliminated. In some cases, the immune system may recognize an allergen without causing noticeable symptoms, or the body may tolerate it well. For others, reactions can be subtle or develop gradually over time, making them easy to overlook. In those situations, some people choose to temporarily remove the food and observe how they feel. If you do not notice any change and have never experienced symptoms, there may be no need to avoid that food. I had low reactivity to an allergen that I know I have an allergy or sensitivity to. How is this possible? Our test measures how your body’s immune system reacts to the foods you currently eat and the environment that you are currently in. If you have abstained from a specific food or avoided an environmental allergy for a long time, any sensitivity or allergy you have may not show up on the report. My report showed that I have reactivity to an allergen that I never eat or that I am never exposed to. How is this possible? Our immune system recognizes antigens by their shape. When the immune system is triggered, it produces antibodies against this shape. Occasionally, an unrelated antigen will have a similar shape that these antibodies will recognize. When this happens, we see “cross-reactivity.” A common example of cross-reactivity occurs between birch pollen and apples. The immune system recognizes certain shapes on proteins, and in this case, proteins in apples closely resemble those found in birch pollen. Because of this similarity, a person who reacts to one may also show a reaction to the other. As a result, someone who eats apples may show a response to birch pollen on their test, even if they are rarely or never exposed to birch, because the antibodies recognize similar features in both. What is the “low range” column on my test? The “low range” column shows the cutoff concentration between low and moderate reactivity. Any result below this level is considered low reactivity. Any result at or above this level is considered moderate or high reactivity. My food allergy and sensitivity test shows gluten and wheat. What is the difference? Wheat and gluten are related, but they are not the same thing. Gluten is one specific protein found in wheat, while wheat contains many different proteins in addition to gluten. Because of this, someone can react to wheat without reacting to gluten. Some individuals are sensitive to non-gluten proteins in wheat, while others may react specifically to gluten. Testing them separately allows us to better understand which component the immune system is responding to. My environmental test showed reactivity for mold. What should I do? A mold-reactive result means your immune system is responding to mold-related antigens, but it does not indicate where the exposure is coming from. Mold exposure can occur through environmental or dietary sources. If you have concerns about mold exposure, discussing them with a healthcare provider can help determine whether any additional evaluation is needed. What is the difference between IgG, IgG4, IgE, and C3b/d? We measure these 4 immunological biomarkers to create a more comprehensive picture of how your body reacts to the foods you eat. IgE is associated with classic, immediate allergic reactions, which can include symptoms like sneezing, itching, hives, or swelling. IgG reflects delayed immune responses that may be associated with sensitivities and longer-term or less obvious symptoms. IgG4 is often linked to immune tolerance and may indicate repeated or ongoing exposure to an antigen without a strong inflammatory response. C3b/d is a marker of immune complex activity and complement activation, which can reflect how strongly the immune system is reacting to an antigen and whether that response may be contributing to inflammation. What is the difference between an allergy and a sensitivity? Allergies typically trigger quick reactions, like sneezing, itching, hives, or swelling, and can sometimes be severe enough to need prompt medical care. Sensitivities often show up more slowly, with symptoms that may take hours or days to appear. These reactions can be more subtle, such as bloating, headaches, fatigue, or inflammation, and are often difficult to trace back to a single cause. Our testing looks at immune activity related to both allergic and sensitivity responses, providing insight into possible triggers behind both immediate and delayed symptoms. How is your test different from a skin prick test? Skin prick testing is performed in a doctor’s office under a doctor’s care. It is designed to identify immediate allergic reactions, typically those that occur within minutes and are often associated with symptoms like sneezing, itching, or hives. In these tests, small scratches or pricks are made in the skin to which antigens are applied. The skin around each allergen is then assessed for the development of an allergic reaction. These tests identify whether your immune system produces IgE antibodies, which trigger immediate, real-time allergic reactions. Our test can be performed at home or with a phlebotomist and can be used to evaluate immune responses to both immediate allergies and delayed sensitivities. These reactions can develop over hours or days and may involve subtle or ongoing symptoms. We measure the antibodies that are already present in your body, so our test provides a snapshot of what your body is currently reacting to. How do I prepare for the test? Our tests do not require any special preparation, such as fasting or omitting foods from your diet. If you are curious about how your body reacts to a specific food, we suggest incorporating that food into your diet a few days before you collect your sample, as long as it is safe to do so. Do any medications interfere with the test? Our test measures specific immune markers (IgG, IgG4, IgE, and C3b/d) in your blood. Any medications that directly affect these immune markers can interfere with these tests. Below are some medications that are known to interfere with our tests: Glutocorticoids like prednisone and dexmethasone Chemotherapy Certain disease-modifying drugs for treating multiple sclerosis Immunosuppresants Medications like over-the-counter antihistamines, cold and flu medications, and antidepressants do not affect our test. You should never discontinue a medication without your provider’s knowledge. Do I need a doctor’s referral to order a test? No referral is required. Simply visit our Shop page to place your order, or contact us if you need any assistance. Providers: Please register for a Provider Account to access ordering and wholesale pricing. How long does it take to get results? Results are typically available within 3–5 business days after the lab receives your sample. How will I receive my results? If you purchased your test directly through us, your results will be emailed directly to you. Your report will come with a clear, easy-to-follow guide to help you understand your results and next steps. If your test was ordered through a healthcare provider, your results will be sent to your provider so they can review them with you and create a personalized plan. What do I do after I receive my results? For the best outcomes, we recommend scheduling a session with one of our registered dietitians to walk through your report and create a personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan based on your results. If your test was ordered through a healthcare provider, you will typically review your results directly with your provider, who can guide your next steps. Can children take this test? I know I am allergic to a specific food, but my test shows that I have no antibodies to that food. What do these results mean and is it safe to eat that food again? Our test measures circulating antibodies (such as IgE and IgG) against specific foods that are present in your blood when your sample is collected. These antibodies decrease over time when you stop eating specific foods and can become undetectable. If you have avoided eating a food that you are allergic to, you will likely not see antibodies for this food on your test results. These results do not mean that a food is safe to eat, particularly if you already know that you are allergic to that food, or that you no longer have an allergy to that food. Blood-based testing reflects the body's current immune activity, but does not indicate the potential for an allergic reaction. You should only reintroduce foods into your diet under the guidance and care of a physician, and extra caution should be exercised around foods that you are allergic to. × Private Results Review Session This is a private, one-on-one session with our Integrative Dietitian to help you understand exactly what your lab results mean for you.
